New Year At The Esplanade
I am really thankful for the time of rest over this long weekend. It was very refreshing to me. I spent the first day of 2007 buying some household stuff, browsing at Borders, watching movies and then having supper with some friends.
One of the highlights for yesterday was when we were at the Esplanade. There was a very good Filipino band playing at the open space at around 10pm plus. They played some familiar songs from The Police and The Beatles. I must say that the standard of the singing and playing were quite outstanding. They were a four-piece band and they were playing in the outdoor but they sounded really great. Talent really does count!
Just as we were about to leave for supper after listening to around 4 songs, they sang a song that was strangely familiar and I found myself instantaneously singing along. The band was singing “Give Thanks”!
Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart
Give Thanks To The Holy One
Give Thanks Because He Has Given Jesus Christ, His Son…
Amazing, the band was outright preaching the gospel without the people even realizing it. Some of the band's regular friends (or rather brothers and sisters in Christ) were invited to sing along as the mic was being passed around. The audience were listening and clapping along because they were firstly impressed with their skills.
If they had chosen to sing “Give Thanks” as their very first song, I doubted the mostly pre-believing audience would have been as accepting and attentive given that they sang outright about Jesus.
What I took away here is that in order to reach more of our world, we have to “impress” the world more and more in order to gain a greater audience. Yes, God does indeed look at the heart but the pre-believing world is not God!
That’s what part of being Salt & Light is about…In the world, Not of the world, Influencing the world.

Pastor, wad do u suggest we impress them?
what's wad? Is it why or is it what? If it is why, like I have said before, we do that to "earn" their admiration so that they would be more accepting to our message of Jesus.
If it is what, there are many ways. If we are studying, we should the best in our studies. If we are working, do the best in our job. We should also seek to be good parents, good children and others.
Be the best that we can be with God's help such that they will be "impressed" with the quality of our lives and be interested to hear the reason for our success i.e. knowing and loving Jesus.
dear pastor, wad is what=]
