109 Teochew Yong Tau Foo

As I do not want to be accused as a promoter of unhealthy food, allow me to introduce to you a tasty and healthy (sounds like a paradox but it is true!) Teochew meal.

Yong Tau Foo is commonly known as a Hakka food. But we discover this very tasty Teochew version at Syed Alwi Road. The exact address is 216-6, Syed Alwi Road (Jalan Besar) Tel:(65)62991643.

The food is simple and good. It goes easy on the stomach and does not give you a bloated after feeling (provided that you do not overeat).

The ingredients are all freshly prepared on the spot and there seems to be very little, if any, trace of msg in the food. It is the kind of food that ladies would mostly like and guys would learn to enjoy as they age.

The noodles is the typical “law-mee” style. The homemade chilli goes really well with the food.

The food for both Claudia and I (two bowls of noodles, 12 pieces of Yong Tau Foo plus one lime juice) costs us only S$6.60. That is really good value for money. The first time when I visited and when they told me the cost, I thought that they must have miscalculated.

And if you are into politics, you may even have the opportunity to talk with Sylvia Lim over Teochew Yong Tau Foo. The Workers' Party Head Office is just next door.

It is not only good, it is SUPER GOOD:).
If you want to meet Workers' party leaders, they are usually there on Monday nights before 8pm and every 1st Tuesday of the month.
The food rox too!

Jeff, I guess Yong Tau Foo is probably some of the healthiest food around. At least this is what Cheryl tries to feed me after church. A friend of mine, runs 2 blogs: one on food in Singapore (most of it not promoting good health) and another one on his family practice as a GP (teaching people how not to get sick!!) Unfortunately both blogs clash a bit...

Hi Jan, it must be hard if we feed only on healthy food. But the truth is that we all need to watch our health...
